Introduction

The study programme

Agricultural produce forms the basis of the food products that we purchase and use to prepare the meals we eat every day. Agribusiness professionals have the challenging job of marketing healthy and sustainably produced food products at a profit, while considering inflation, a constantly changing international market, social pressure and the environment. Our 1.5-year double bachelor’s honours (EED) programme in International Agribusiness prepares you to manage the process of bringing food from farm to fork. It is a hands-on programme where you get to demonstrate what you have learned in internships at agribusiness companies. Two semesters are spent at our partner university ESA Groupe in Angers, France.

We provide this programme together with our partner university Groupe ESA. Because of this, successful completion of this programme not only prepares you for a career in agribusiness, it also gets you a double bachelor’s honours degree.
Hands-on learning

Being practice-oriented, this programme provides a hands-on learning experience. Not only will you take in a great deal of knowledge on a variety of subjects, you will also apply it to the business operations of real-life companies and in business simulations.

If you were to ask students who took this programme before you about their experiences, they would probably tell you that it teaches you to challenge yourself. This is because you will have to learn and apply lots of knowledge and information, while dealing with the challenges that come with studying abroad.

Programme content

This is what you will learn

The Agribusiness programme spans three semesters (1.5 years), of which one is spent studying at our partner university, Groupe ESA in Angers, France. The programme kicks off in Dronten with two modules on Export Management and Supply Chain Analysis, brings you to France for a module on Viticulture in Angers and ends with an internship and thesis project.

Modules

Module 1 - Supply Chain Management

This module is about the different aspects of the food chain, from farm to fork. You will learn about research methodology, statistics and various supply chain management and logistics subjects, such as sustainability, purchasing, distribution management, lean logistics and reverse logistics. To put theory into practice, there will be a project where you analyse different aspects of a company’s logistical operations and its entire supply chain. Based on your findings, you will write an advisory report, in which you suggest improvements to the logistics and supply chain. Besides this, you will do a business simulation, focusing on overall supply chain management.
Module 2 - Export Management

This module prepares you to perform successfully in an international business environment. This involves understanding the importance of international markets and learning how to write and export plan. You will learn all there is to know about export planning, export management simulation, intercultural management, European trade policy, potential export markets and different cultures. You get to apply your knowledge in a business simulation and in a practical project with an advisory report for a company. And if you like, you can go on an excursion to Hungary or Bulgaria.

The second semester takes you to la belle France, one of the EU’s leading countries in agriculture. Here you will spend two semesters gaining knowledge in the third module and putting this into practice in internships in French.

Module 3 - Specialization International Agribusiness

In the last module, you will examine content linked to wine marketing and international trade. The focus is on technical skills, consultancy and business operations.

Semester 3

In the third semester, from September to January, you get to apply what you have learned in an international internship. Under supervision of Aeres in Dronten, you will describe and analyse a company in terms of organisation, management and marketing in the framework of wine export. You will describe your research and findings in a graduation thesis.
