The Research Group Future-Proof Food Systems contributes through applied research to transformations of food systems in which inclusiveness, food security, sustainability and health are safeguarded — both in the Netherlands and in international contexts.
Food systems are understood as complex adaptive systems in which ecological, economic, social and political processes continuously interact. Change therefore requires more than technological innovation or behavioural change alone. It requires system transformation: rethinking the ways in which production, trade, consumption, policy and knowledge development are interconnected.
The research group builds on the practice-oriented and interdisciplinary approach of Aeres Hogeschool. Connecting research, education and practice is therefore central to the work of the research group. Students, researchers and practice partners collaborate on current challenges related to future-proof food systems.
