RIO is the abbreviation of the ‘Register Instellingen en Opleidingen’ (Register of Institutions and Programmes). This register lists all accredited programmes offered by universities and universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. Every programme included in RIO has an official recognition, indicating that it meets the legal quality standards.
You may apply for student finance for an accredited programme and, upon successful completion, you will receive a legally recognised diploma or certificate. You will need the programme code from RIO when applying for student finance at DUO or when enrolling in a programme via Studielink.
