About Pieter Seuneke

Pieter Seuneke (1982) began working as a teacher researcher at Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Wageningen in 2016. He has a dual role. He is a principal teacher in the subject of research in the first year of the Learning and Innovating master’s programme, and a researcher for the Responsive Education professorship of professor and Open University professor Frank de Jong. As a researcher, he is presently researching the possibilities of suitable (green) (vocational) education for the transition in the agrifood sector. This is for the IMPACT professorship programme in collaboration with professors at the 4 so-called green universities of applied sciences: Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Dronten, HAS green academy, Inholland and Van Hall Larenstein.

Peter studied Garden & Landscape at the former Stoas University of Applied Sciences from 2000 to 2004. This was followed by the international master’s programme in Management of Agro-Ecological Knowledge and Social Change at Wageningen UR from 2005 to 2007.

After fulfilling various positions at, among other organisations) Schuttelaar & Partners and LTO Noord, he began working as a researcher and doctoral student in 2009 for the Rural Sociology chair and the Education & Learning Sciences chair at Wageningen UR. His doctoral research in 2014 was on understanding the learning process in which Dutch farming families develop themselves from production-based to multifunctional agricultural family businesses.

After obtaining his doctorate, he became a postdoctoral researcher in the field of ‘co-innovation’ in agriculture, i.e. the collaboration of farmers and agricultural researchers. This was for a EU project of the Knowledge, Technology & Innovation, and Farming Systems Ecology departments of Wageningen UR. He was also a programme manager for the National Taskforce for Applied Research SIA.

Because of his background and current work, Pieter thinks and operates from a systemic and interdisciplinary perspective. He is an expert on learning and innovation processes at different levels; vocational education in a broad sense. He is eager to connect this knowledge to his experience with and knowledge on sociotechnical dynamics in the agrifood sector.
