About Noa van Leuffen

Noa van Leuffen began her studies at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden. Here she obtained her bachelor’s degree and specialised in laboratory animal science and animal welfare. She carried out research on how to implement picking up mice with tubes (in an animal-friendly way). For this she was awarded the Alternatives for Animal Testing prize from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in 2019.

Subsequently, Noa obtained her master’s degree at Wageningen UR. She graduated as an animal scientist and carried out research on (1) the effects of frustration on facial expressions of pigs, and (2) the effects of providing dried black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) on broiler activity. She presented the results of the second project on behalf of Aeres and Wageningen UR at the European Symposium on Poultry Welfare.

She works as a teacher researcher at Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Dronten for the Sustainable Poultry Farming in a Circular Business professorship. She teaches about poultry, pigs and research methodology. Noa has a passion for animal welfare, animal behaviour and the use of insects as animal feed. She wants to provide solutions that are relevant to the field of practice, thereby contributing to sustainability in and innovation of the poultry farming sector.
