About Marije Bent

Marije Bent (1984) has been working at Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Wageningen since 2015. She works as a teacher researcher for the Responsive Education professorship. She obtained a bachelor’s degree at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem and began giving drawing and crafts classes at a practical school during her studies. That is also when she started taking a Special Education Needs master’s programme, specialising as a behavioural specialist.

She became very interested in learning and in learning together. The question she was triggered by was: How can students achieve more than they themselves or other people think? From here, she went on to become a manager in pre-vocational secondary education and connected learning by students to learning by adults. It was about how they form education together and how they think up what is best for the students. Around this time, she obtained a master’s degree in Education in London. Her research was on the subject of how students from different migration backgrounds in the Netherlands and England view art education.

In order to gain a better understanding of how other people learn, she took a master’s programme in Implementation and Change Management at the Open University. Her graduation thesis was on the subject of ‘Flow’. She researched the way in which a manager can ensure their colleagues get into a flow state and have more fun doing their work. in her current job, she carries out research on how teachers cocreate to further develop their classes and curriculum.
