About Esmee Spoler

Esmee Spoler has been working as a research assistant in the Practice-based Research Team at Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Dronten since September of 2021. She works for two professorships, one of which is Circular Entrepreneurship in the Agrifood Sector. After her graduation internship on the subject of food waste, she continued working for Aeres. Food waste is one of the subjects that highly motivates her to work on the development of a circular economy. She loves working with her colleagues and with students and businesses, in order to think up new ideas. One of her goals is to turn the CIRKL Business Lab into a vibrant testing ground that includes vermicomposting and growing crops in saline conditions.

Besides working on projects concerning the circular economy, Esmee has developed an interest in various subjects due to the Applied Biology bachelor’s programme that she took. She loves working on projects that focus on sustainability, animals and nature. This is why she also works for the Animal-Assisted Interventions professorship, which combines nicely with her experience working for a healthcare organisation and a wildlife park.

To further her professional development, she is doing a master’s programme in Climate Psychology and Behaviour. In doing so, she wants to contribute to the improvement of our climate through the realisation of behavioural change in the protein transition.
