Explore water management in a changing climate

How do you manage water when the climate is changing?

Rising temperatures and changing weather patterns are creating increasingly complex challenges for water management. During this international programme, you will explore these challenges from different perspectives and work together on real-world cases around Lake IJsselmeer.

You will combine knowledge from fields such as hydrology, ecology, engineering, economics and policy. At the same time, you will discover how the Netherlands approaches water management and reflect on your own role as a future professional.

The programme explicitly aims to bring together students from different disciplines to solve complex, multi-layered water-management challenges.

The programme is intended for students at Erasmus partners of Aeres UAS who are open to different perspectives, interdisciplinary cooperation and working in English.

    You don't expect water-management challenges to have one simple answer. You enjoy analysing a problem, exploring different perspectives and finding possible solutions.

  • You want to work across disciplines

      Water management isn't just about water. Ecology, technology, economics, policy and society all play a role. You are curious about what happens when these perspectives come together.  

  • You want an international experience

      You are comfortable working in English and want to collaborate with students from different countries and academic backgrounds while experiencing Dutch water management first-hand.  

What will you learn?

During the BIP, you develop your understanding of water management while working on an actual Dutch case.

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
    Work in international and cross-functional teams to analyse real-world challenges around Lake IJsselmeer.
  • Systems thinking
    Discover how hydrology, ecology, engineering, economics and policy interact and influence decisions about water.
  • Professional development
    Reflect on your role and professional identity as a future water professional and develop your English communication skills.

How does the programme work?

The BIP combines online preparation with an intensive on-site week in the Netherlands.

Costs

Costs and Erasmus+ funding

Programme fee

Participation in the programme itself is free of charge.

Erasmus+ funding

Students can be eligible for Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme funding through their home institution. This funding can contribute towards travel and subsistence costs.

Accommodation and meals

A mandatory contribution of approximately €400 is required for the on-site week. This covers organised accommodation, transport between the accommodation and campus, and lunches and dinners arranged by Aeres UAS.

Can you participate?

This BIP is intended for international students who:

  • study at an Erasmus partner institution of Aeres University of Applied Sciences;
  • are interested in solving complex problems;
  • enjoy connecting different disciplines and perspectives;
  • are open to new ideas and approaches;
  • are willing to collaborate across disciplines;
  • are comfortable studying and communicating in English.

If there are more applications than available places, Aeres University of Applied Sciences may use a selection procedure for international applicants.
