What an unforgettable start to the academic year! In October, our first-year International Food Business students embarked on a study trip to Italy. The journey was not only about building strong connections within the group, but also about sparking enthusiasm for their future profession.
Turin and the Salone del Gusto
Upon arrival on Saturday, the students immediately immersed themselves in the world of good and responsible food at the Salone del Gusto. The highlight of the day was a meeting with Jorrit Kiewik, a former student and now director of Slow Food Youth Network. He shared his passion for sustainable food and provided our students with valuable insights.
☕ Coffee, Wine, and Slow Food
On Sunday, the programme kicked off with an interactive dive into the world of coffee at the Lavazza Museum, where students learned all about the rich history and culture of this Italian icon. On Monday, they visited the “wine cathedrals” of Canelli, a UNESCO World Heritage city and the birthplace of sparkling spumante wine.
🥂 From Partner University to Parmigiano Reggiano
Tuesday’s programme featured inspiring guest lectures at our partner university in Piacenza, followed by a visit to an organic winery where students learned firsthand how climate challenges are shaping modern winemaking. Wednesday was all about tradition and taste: from artisanal Parmigiano Reggiano to the craft of balsamic vinegar at Giuseppe Giusti, Italy’s oldest commercial producer. Naturally, no visit would have been complete without sampling these authentic flavours.
🍝 Exploring Milan
The trip concluded with a day of discovery in Milan and a lively group pasta dinner.
This study trip offered students a rich experience full of knowledge, culture, and gastronomy.
