Full time bachelor programme international food business Aeres university of applied sciences

My dream had always been to study abroad for a year, and that made choosing International Food Business easy.

Carlijn van Schaik, fourth-year student of International Food Business

Why did you choose International Food Business?

After completing senior general secondary education (havo), I was deciding between International Food Business and law. Because I had always dreamed of studying abroad for a year, International Food Business immediately stood out as the best choice. That dream became a reality in my third year, when I had the opportunity to study in Canada.

Did you deliberately choose an international, English-taught programme?

Absolutely. Since I see my future in the export sector, I wanted a programme that would broaden my horizons internationally. By studying in English, I can improve my vocabulary, which is very useful for my future.

What do you enjoy most about the programme?

It gives me the opportunity to get to know different perspectives. Through the international students in my class, I gain insight into how other countries view certain topics.

My exchange in Canada was truly unforgettable! I gained in-depth knowledge of business-related subjects, and the experience helped me grow tremendously as a person.

How was your year at Dalhousie University?

It was an amazing year. I quickly felt at home, especially because I lived with fellow students. Daily life in Canada was quite similar to the Netherlands, but the colder winters definitely made it an adventure. Finding an internship was initially a challenge, but with thorough preparation and the excellent support of my professors, it all worked out. I have learned a lot, especially about business-related subjects, and I have grown tremendously as a person. I am still in touch with many of the Dalhousie students and the professionals I met during my internship.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am still deciding between two exciting options: continuing with a Master’s degree or starting work at a company in the fruit export sector. Both paths appeal to me a lot.
