Our university is still located in the middle of the shopping centre in Almere. In 2013 we moved into the current building, where we then had one floor at our disposal. Soon that space was too small due to the growth of our university. That's why we got a second floor in 2015. The number of students coming to study with us is still growing every year. That's fantastic, of course, but it does mean that we'll soon be growing out of this area as well.
We haven't missed the opportunity to build on the Floriade grounds: close to the center and with the possibility of realizing a future-proof and appealing school building.
Growing Green Cities
The theme of the Floriade 2022 'Growing Green Cities' fits perfectly with our mission 'Let the city live'. With the overarching theme of our courses 'Food, nature & urban green' and our research program 'Healthy living in the green city' we fulfill our mission. With our new building we are also giving this a physical interpretation.
The sub-themes of the Floriade seamlessly fit in with what our courses are all about: green, energy, health and nutrition. In short, the Floriade grounds offer an inspiring place for our students, both before, during and after the event. After the exhibition, the grounds will continue to exist as Almere's newest green neighborhood.
The world exhibition Floriade will start in the spring of 2022 and will last six months.
