Student support services in Almere

By disability we mean that you have been officially diagnosed as having a disability that may limit you during your studies. Examples of a disability are: autism; AD(H)D; dyslexia; an anxiety disorder; depression; a physical disability; a visual or hearing impairment; or a chronic disease.

If this applies to you, can count on extra facilities and support from the dean of students and the student coach at Aeres UAS Almere. We go to great lengths to create an environment in which your disability limits you as little as possible. Besides this we support you in your personal development, in order to help you expand your independence in dealing with the impact of your disability. Based on our experience, this extra support and guidance should enable you to complete your studies just like anyone else.

Would you like to know which facilities are available to you? Make an appointment with the dean of students to discuss the limitations that you see yourself dealing with. The sooner you contact her, the sooner we can arrange appropriate facilities for you. Your personal tutor helps you to keep an eye on your academic progress and regularly inquires how you are doing. Despite this personal attention, you might occasionally need some extra support, so that you can study without any worries. Someone to give you a hand with planning and studying effectively. Someone to help you along again when you are not feeling like yourself, for example because you are feeling stressed out, are afraid of failing or are feeling down or unmotivated. Or someone to support you when there are difficulties in your private life because someone in your family is feeling ill or if someone close to you has passed away.

The dean of students and the student coach will be there for you if you find yourself in a difficult situation. Together with them, you can find out what you need and how to get a grip on your situation. Of course, your personal tutor can refer you to them, but you can also make direct contact with them.

Understandably, it can be difficult to talk to someone about the inappropriate behaviour of fellow students or Aeres staff members. However, we feel that it is important to do so because it can help you to deal with it and because something can be done to end it. 

You can talk about it to the student counsellor. If you prefer, you can also talk online or outside the school premises. The counsellor can help you to lodge a complaint before the complaints authority who will investigate the complaint and ensure that direct action is taken as soon as possible.

We encourage entrepreneurship and taking the initiative in general. This is why we have several ways in which you can focus on your own business during your studies. To give you an example, you can carry out assessments and assignments for your own business. And in the final year of your studies, you can even graduate in your own business via our ‘Green Starters Traject’, our project for students who want to start a ‘green’ business.
