The programme focuses on aspects such as poultry nutrition, breeding, poultry health and welfare, feed production, poultry house climate, and farm economics. In your role as advisor on poultry farms, you will be trained how to give immediate practical advice in actual cases. The programme therefore contains elements such as advisory training and practical training in farm analysis, carried out on our own University Farm and farms in the surrounding area. There are modules on applied business economics, marketing and strategy (entrepreneurship). The programme consists of 2 modules, a company placement, and a thesis.
This one-year programme is divided into 2 semesters:
The focus in all courses is on poultry:
Poultry specialist and advisor (13 ECTS credits)
- You learn how to make an applied farm analysis and translate this into economic results
- You get applied poultry science lectures on nutrition, health, welfare, breeding, feed management, and learn how to put this into practice
- There will be a number of practical training sessions on the job (understand, advise and optimize in practice)
Entrepreneur (13 ECTS credits)
- Understanding global markets and consumer demands
- Dealing with cultural differences
- Human Resource Management in different circumstances
Personal Management (4 ECTS credits)
- Intercultural communication
- Personal development
Applied livestock research (8 ECTS credits)
- Research methodology
Company placement (16 ECTS credits)
The company placement is in a company in poultry advisory, business, applied research, or in a more complex poultry farm. This can be in the Netherlands or abroad, including your home country. Students have been placed with feed companies, large-scale poultry farms, or specific international advisory organisations
Thesis (6 ECTS)
Students choose their own thesis subject. This subject can be related to the focus of their company placement. In their thesis reports, students demonstrate their ability to do applied research on a Bachelor level and to write a thesis report.
This programme is offered to a mixed group of Dutch and foreign poultry-oriented students.

All records of modules are administered according to the EC system. After one semester in a course, students’ progress and results are assessed in a meeting of the lecturers teaching and assessing the course. This meeting is meant to identify students with possible progress problems. At the end of the course , students’ progress and results are assessed again. The award of a degree or diploma and pertinent qualification follows the award of all course credits leading to that award.
