In this programme, you will focus on aspects such as pig nutrition, breeding, pig health and welfare, feed production, climate, and economics. In your role as advisor, you will give practical advice in actual cases. The programme therefore contains elements such as advisory training and practical training in farm analysis on our own University Farm and farms in the area. There are courses on applied business economics, marketing and strategy (entrepreneurship). The programme consists of 2 courses (modules), a company placement, and a thesis.

The focus in all courses is on pigs:
Pig specialist and advisor (13 ECTS credits)
- You learn how to make an applied farm analysis and translate this into economic results
- You gain in-depth knowledge about nutrition, health, welfare, breeding, and feed management, and learn how to put this into practice
- You will get practical training on the job (understand, advise and optimize in practice)
Entrepreneur (13 ECTS credits)
- Understanding markets and consumer demands
- Dealing with cultural differences and eating habits
- Human Resource Management in different circumstances
Competency Management (4 ECTS credits)
- Intercultural communication
- Personal development
Applied livestock research (8 ECTS credits)
- Research methodology
Company placement (16 ECTS credits)
The company placement is in a company in pig advisory, business, or applied research, or in a more complex pig farm. This placement will be in the Netherlands. Students have been placed with feed companies, large-scale pig farms and specific international advisory organisations
Thesis (6 ECTS credits)
Students choose their own subject for the thesis report. Most of the time, this subject is related to the focus of their company placement. In their thesis reports, students demonstrate their ability to do applied research on a Bachelor level.
This programme is offered to a mixed group of Dutch and foreign students.

All records of modules are administered according to the EC system. After one semester in a course, students’ progress and results are assessed in a meeting of the lecturers teaching and assessing the course. This meeting is meant to identify students with possible progress problems. At the end of the course , students’ progress and results are assessed again. The award of a degree or diploma and pertinent qualification follows the award of all course credits leading to that award.
