The flower and food sectors in most economies worldwide are undergoing rapid change. The development of new products, the increasing demand in non-traditional markets, and the relocation of production to areas with a more favourable production climate - both in the physical and in the business sense - contribute to a form of globalization that is specific to these sectors. More than ever before, future managers and advisors in the sector need first-hand knowledge of innovative techniques in horticulture and plant breeding, as well as possess international business management skills.
Graduates of this course will have first-hand knowledge of practices in the Netherlands, one of the leading countries in horticulture and plant breeding in the EU. A middle manager in the flower and food sector needs to be aware of the primary processes in horticulture, the issues that are paramount for that sector, new developments stemming from research, as well as the quality of the product throughout the chain. To this, the successful manager will add international awareness and experience of international settings in which both production and sales take place, aided by proficiency in handling cultural differences.
