Year 1 (60 ECTS credits)
In the first few months, you will visit horticultural companies and attend lectures about horticulture in the Netherlands.
International Strategic Innovation in Horticulture module (13 ECTS credits)
This module is designed to train students in entrepreneurship and innovative competencies. Students will be taught the necessary professional skills to apply knowledge of high-tech plant production systems, financial management, and strategic product and business management. Students will also do an internship, in which they will learn about high-tech plant production systems. For the assessment, students are expected to write a strategic business plan for a horticultural company.
International Corporate Social Responsibly and Quality Management Systems in Horticulture module (13 ECTS credits)
This module is about quality-oriented production in horticulture. Students will learn about QMS and CSR in horticulture, process management, and export management. This takes place in theory classes, but also during excursions focusing on quality-oriented production in horticulture, and a practical training on product quality and postharvest. For the assessment, students are asked to design a CSR / QMS analysis for a horticultural company.
The second semester starts with a short module at Aeres UAS in Dronten. This is the module ‘Applied Research’. You will gain knowledge about research methodology and statistics. This module will prepare you for your graduation project research in the second academic year of this study programme.
After this module the study continues at Ecole Superieure d’Agricultures in Angers (France). You will study for 7 weeks at this university. During this period you will study the topics genotyping, genetics, crop protection and plant pathology. Next to lessons in the classroom, you will have several excursions to diverse companies in the region. After your study at ESA Angers, you will have a practical placement of 9 weeks and the semester will end with examination weeks in Dronten.
Year 2 (60 ECTS credits)
In the second year of the programme, you will focus on entrepreneurship or extension services. If you choose entrepreneurship, your subjects will include Human Resource Management, focusing especially on large-scale farms. Students who choose extension services will be taught sales and advisory skills.
We will prepare you for a career in an international business setting by providing training in business etiquette. In addition, you will be trained in the field of plant production. All skills and knowledge gained will be put into practice during an international company placement, in which you will work as a young professional. You will work on an individual research project during this placement, which will form the basis of your thesis. In your thesis report, you need to demonstrate your ability to do applied research on bachelor level.

All records of modules are administered according to the EC system. After one semester in a course, students’ progress and results are assessed in a meeting of the lecturers teaching and assessing the course. This meeting is meant to identify students with possible progress problems. At the end of the course , students’ progress and results are assessed again. The award of a degree or diploma and pertinent qualification follows the award of all course credits leading to that award.
