The programme focuses on various aspects such as dairy nutrition, breeding, health, feed production, and farm economics. In your role as advisor, you will give practical advice in different real-life situations. For this purpose, the programme contains advisory and practical training, and farm analysis on our University Farm and farms in the area. The programme consists of 3 main subjects (modules) with courses such as applied business economics, marketing and strategy (entrepreneurship). The programme is completed by a company placement and a thesis.
This programme is offered to a mixed group of Dutch and foreign students.
This one-year programme is divided into 2 semesters:
The focus in all courses is on dairy:
Dairy specialist and advisor (13 ECTS credits)
- Making farm analyses, including economic results
- Adjusting feeding, health, breeding, feed management on farm level, including an implementation plan
- Learning to apply advisory techniques in practical situations
Entrepreneur (13 ECTS credits)
- Understanding markets and consumer demands
- Human Resource Management in various business environments
Competency Management (4 ECTS credits)
- Intercultural communication
- Personal development
Applied livestock research (8 ECTS credits)
- Preparing a research proposal
- Analyzing data from dairy research
- Translating research findings into practical recommendations
Company placement (16 ECTS credits)
During your company placement, you will be given the opportunity to gain experience and develop competencies for one of the functions related to dairy management. This placement will be in the Netherlands. In the past, students have been placed with feed companies, research institutes, companies developing and selling dairy equipment, and specific international advisory organisations.
Thesis (6 ECTS)
The thesis subject will be chosen by you or in consultation with your placement company. The subject is usually related to a topic of the company placement. In your thesis report, you need to demonstrate your ability of doing applied research on bachelor level.

All records of modules are administered according to the EC system. After one semester in a course, students’ progress and results are assessed in a meeting of the lecturers teaching and assessing the course. This meeting is meant to identify students with possible progress problems. At the end of the course , students’ progress and results are assessed again. The award of a degree or diploma and pertinent qualification follows the award of all course credits leading to that award.
